On 25th April 2016, Prof. Frank Ezugwu was elected by the Faculty Board of Clinical Medicine as the new Dean of the faculty. He was formally appointed to the position by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Luke Anike on the 8th of May 2016. He took over from Dr. Orjioke C.J.G.

In his acceptance speech, Professor Ezugwu of Obstetrics and Gynaecology pledged his loyalty to the University's Visitor and Administration and his determination to positively effect changes in areas of teaching (content, presentation and assessment), curriculum review, increasing the visibility of the college and the university through research and other academic programmes, sustaining excellence in the training of doctors and ensuring appropriate students well being and welfare.

He has since assumed office.
